ELCA Meeting the Media in Denver

A breakfast is scheduled for tomorrow to introduce the ELCA advertising campaign. According to “The Cherry Creek News and Central Dispatch” (www.thecherrycreeknews.com/content/view/1713/741) the ELCA is bringing out some VIPs from the churchwide office in Chicago and the ELCA Rocky Mountain Synod to comment on “this unique pilot campaign and its purposes.”

We should expect to hear from:

-- Kristi S. Bangert, director, ELCA Communication Services, Chicago (she was the person who developed the “Print ads for Congregations” that can be found at: www.elca.org/elcaads/)
-- The Rev. Allan C. Bjornberg, bishop, ELCA Rocky Mountain Synod, Denver
-- The Rev. Kent A. Mueller, director for administration and communication, ELCA Rocky Mountain Synod, Denver
-- Linda Bobbitt, vice president, ELCA Rocky Mountain Synod

I am interested in what they have to say and hope that there is a good media turnout. This is something new and exciting for an old Lutheran like me - something that doesn’t happen every day in a church that is often portrayed as being stogy.
Here is the schedule for the print ads:

September 16: Daily Camera
September 23: Daily Camera
September 25: Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News

The outdoor advertising can be found at:

N Colorado Blvd. 4205 Ws .25 mi S/O I-70 F/N
N Federal 6735 Ws .50 mi S/O Us 36 F/N
I-70 Ss .75 mi W/O Wadsworth 2 F/E
E Colfax 1801 Ns .50 mi W/O York St F/W
W Colfax 4405 Ns .60 mi E/O Sheridan F/W
E Alameda 9760 Ss 750.00 ft W/O Havana F/E
Quebec St 4205 Ws 1000.00 ft S/O I-70 F/S
W Alameda 1434 Ss .50 mi W/O Sante Fe F/E
S Sante Fe 1290 Es .20 mi S/O Mississippi F/S
S Federal 2322 Es 1500.00 ft S/O Evans F/S

We’ll be seeing the ads in print and on the billboards for the whole month of September. Hopefully Denver will be just the first of many such campaigns across the country.

I still love the tag line: “God’s Work. Our Hands.” It has a nice ring to it and says a whole lot in very few words.

Ciao for now.

Kristi Bangert, I didn't know she was the ELCA communications director. What a good choice. I met her years ago when she was at the Lutheran Deaconess Association.

Kristi did such a fine job with the congregational ads, we used many of them at my church. This ad campaign is in good hands with her at the helm.

I really liked the congreational ads. They were clean and crisp and spoke Lutheran.

These new ads have a foreign feel. They center on good works rather than Grace.

Thank you for posting the billboard locations. I spotted one on my way home from work. I CAN'T BELIEVE I DIDN'T SEE IT YESTERDAY.

I'm proud.

I called the church office. They were gone for the day. I left a message. I am telling everyone I know about it.

My son found a sign this afternoon. I have not seen him this excited since the youth gathering. He and his friends are going to "hunt" down all of them this weekend. It is like a giant Easter egg hunt!

Thanks for the locations! There is one close to home that I will check out this morning.

10 billboards

5 newspaper ads

All this hoopla over nothing

There is something wrong with the time stamp on this blog. Right now it is 5:28.

Will we be seeing the press conference on the news tonight?

Does anyone know if Kristi Bangert related to Mark Bangert?

Mark Bangert was one of my professors at seminary.

Kristi and Mark are married. My brother also had Mark Bangert as a professor in seminary. Both of them are great people!

I simply cannot read the signs. It is a shame.
